A drifter gunman "Joe" (Clint Eastwood) comes into a Mexican border town of San Miguel, which is in the midst of turmoil set off by two families who are fighting. "Joe" makes friends with bar owner Silvanito (Jose Calvo) and ends up earning cash for killing off the feuding family members. As he plays one family against the other, "Joe" stays awhile and leaves a more peaceful town. The film spawned two sequels: "For a Few Dollars More" and "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."

He uses himself as the person to be frozen, and while in that state, police arrive on the scene to arrest him for the murder of his ex-wife. But Helen can prove that he was in no condition to murder anyone. Yuk.
