Sister Juana Ines de la Cruz (Assumpta Serna) had a good life in the convent since entering at age 19 in 17th-century Mexico. She spent time teaching music, studying and writing poetry, and other activities. This tragic real-life story of one of Mexico's greatest poets takes a turn for the worse during this time in history, which followed a brutal inquisition. A woman-hating Archbishop arrives who believes the Sister's ideas are radical and that she is dangerous. A well-made film that is somewhat long, thus distracting from the story. Based on a book ("The Pitfalls of Faith") by poet/writer Octavio Paz.
