Illinois police chief James Porter (Martin Lawrence) drives his high-school daughter Melanie (Raven-Symone) to Washington, D.C., for her interview at Georgetown University. But, along the way, more than a few problems await. They get lost and then discover that Melanie's 10-year-old brother Trey (Eshaya Draper) and his pet pig have stowed away in the van, and, of course, they total the van. They get a ride with show-tune singing Doug (Donny Osmond) and his college-age daughter Wendy (Molly Ephraim) and end up on a tour bus where karaoke is the order of the day. By story's end, father and daughter form a bond as lessons are learned during their unique adventure.
