  A writer, William Magee (Gene Raymond), makes a bet that he can complete his novel within 24 hours after checking into the Baldpate Inn. Once he arrives at the hotel, he encounters others holding keys to the inn–including gangster Max the Monk (Murray Alper), detective Harrison Boulton (Eric Blore), distressed Mary Norton (Margaret Callahan), and Myra Thornhill (Erin O'Brien-Moore). All of them are searching for a cache of money, and, as murders ensue, Magee becomes involved in solving the mystery.
