She calls herself "Ansel," is accepted as a student, and then falls in love with fellow student Avigdor (Mandy Patinkin). Problems lie ahead because Avigdor is not aware that "Ansel" is a woman, and he is engaged to Hadass (Amy Irving) who just happens to become romantically interested in "Ansel." The film won an Academy Award for its musical score, and Irving was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. A must for Streisand fans.
