Jane (Katherine Heigl) lives for the weddings of her friends–in fact, she has been a bridesmaid 27 times. When she is not at her friends' weddings Jane dreams about her boss George (Edward Burns). Her sister Tess (Malin Akerman) comes to town, she meets George, romance blooms, and they plan a wedding. Now, Jane begins to examine her "bridesmaid" lifestyle. Meanwhile, New York Times columnist Kevin Doyle (James Marsden) is assigned to do a story on Tess and George's wedding. Kevin picks up on the story of Jane's life as a perennial bridesmaid. The two bicker over Kevin's opinions of women and weddings, but after a rocky start, Kevin and Jane begin to see good things in each other.
