  Best friends–dog-lover Jocelyn (Maria Bello) and newly widowed Sylvia (Amy Brenneman) have just suffered losses in their lives. They form a book club with six-times-married Bernadette (Kathy Baker), high-school teacher Prudie (Emily Blunt), Sylvia's headstrong daughter Allegra (Maggie Grace), and one guy, Grigg (Hugh Dancy), who happens to be a sci-fi fan. The group meets regularly to discuss the works of Jane Austen and, in the process, finds that their own lives parallel those of the characters in the novels.

  Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) retired from the CIA in order to be closer to his 17-year-old daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace), who now divides her time between Bryan and Bryan's ex-wife Lenore (Franke Janssen). After agreeing to her family's strict set of rules, Kim sets off on a trip to Paris with her friend Amanda (Katie Cassidy). Kim and Amanda land in Paris, but are kidnapped by Albanian sex traffickers while Kim is checking in by phone with Bryan. Now, Bryan talks to the kidnappers and delivers a warning to them. Knowing that he has only 96 hours in which to save the girls, Bryan heads for Paris where he uses his surveillance skills and works against evil forces in his search for his beloved daughter.
