There is a problem with the cassette: the video appears to have been filmed in David and Amy's motel room and involves frightened guests being tortured and murdered. David and Amy realize that they, too, are being filmed by hidden cameras and that, if they cannot find a means of escape, they are doomed to be the next victims.

A reformed Wendell enlists the aid of the residents–including Boyd (Seymour Cassel), Skip (Harry Dean Stanton), and L.R. Nasher (Kris Kristofferson)–in a plan to end the scam and, maybe, get Doreen back in the process. As they join forces in Wendell's cause, the residents learn that they still have a lot more living to do.
