  While exiled in Mexico City, Russian Revolution leader Leon Trotsky (Richard Burton) is the victim of Frank Jacson's (Alain Delon) successful assassination plot. This film involves the final months in Trotsky's life and shows how Jacson, with help from his girlfriend Gita Samuels (Romy Schneider)–who just happens to be one of Trotsky's secretaries–manages to get close enough to Trotsky to kill him.
