Helene (Stephane Audran) is bored with her life as the wife of wealthy, insurance executive Charles (Michel Bouquet) and so starts an affair. Charles suspects that Helene is cheating on him, prompting him to hire a private detective to find out. When he gets the name of her lover, Charles calmly confronts the man and kills him, followed by getting rid of the evidence and dumping the body into a pond. The police question Helene, but she lies about the affair and when she finds a picture of her lover in Charles' pocket, she does not tell the police. In fact, Helene has a new respect for Charles. Excellent Hitchcock-like tale.
