  While at the altar to marry Herbie (Robert Hutton), Jacqueline (Barbara Hale) faints and learns that she is pregnant, and her ex-husband Vernon (Robert Walsh) is the father of her expected baby. Jacqueline wants Vernon back and meets with him. It turns out that she is not pregnant, but, after seeing Vernon again, Jacqueline wants him back; however, Vernon's fiancee Wanda (Janis Carter) has different plans for Vernon's future.

  Mad scientist James Brewster (Bela Lugosi) is working on a serum derived from the spinal fluid of a gorilla. He injects himself to test the serum and turns into a hairy, gorilla-like being.   Chinese Princess Mei Ling (Barbara Jean Wong) visits Charlie Chan's (Roland Winters) home and gives Chan's chauffer Birmingham Brown (Mantan Moreland) a ring to show to Chan. While waiting for Chan, Mei Ling is killed in Chan's living room but manages to write the name "Captain K" on a piece of paper. Police Sergeant Bill Davidson (Warren Douglas) helps Chan investigate, and they are aided by reporter Peggy Cartwright (Louise Currie) and Chan's son Tommy (Victor Sen Yung). They learn that Mei Ling had $1,000,000 in her possession, and the money is missing. Will they be able to solve the case? This is a remake of "Mr. Wong in Chinatown," which starred Boris Karloff in the role of Mr. Wong.

The zombies are placed in the dungeon under his mansion, and Marlowe's handyman Toby (John Carradine) watches over them. Marlowe's plan goes well–for awhile.
