Wealthy Texas bar owner Julian Marty (Dan Hedaya) hires private detective Loren Visser (M. Emmet Walsh) to stalk and then kill his wife Abby (Frances McDormand) and her lover Ray (John Getz) who is one of Julian's bartenders. However, the job does not prove as easy as was initially thought, and Visser runs into more than a few problems accomplishing his assignment.
