  High-school freshmen Emmit (David Dorfman), Ryan (Troy Gentile), and Wade (Nate Hartley) are picked on by a bully, Filkins (Alex Frost). To solve their problem, they hire a bodyguard, AWOL homeless soldier Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson), who–unknown to Emmit, Ryan, and Wade–is a scam artist planning to steal from the kids' parents. But, as Drillbit gets to know them, he begins to like the boys. He also meets English teacher Lisa (Leslie Mann) who he really likes. Now, Drillbit is learning that it isn't the money; instead, it is friendships that really matter in life.
