A pregnant woman, Lorelei (Linda Hayden), becomes the unwelcome houseguest of Harry Field (Peter Finch) after he comes to her aid. Harry tells Laurelei that his wife Gabriella (Shelley Winters) had left him after an argument, and now Lorelei's visit has many problems. When Lorelei goes into labor, Harry delivers the baby only to come home from work one day and find Lorelei missing and the baby dead. Harry decides to bury the baby's body on the beach, but police arrive on the scene, and Harry kills himself. Police investigate and learn that Harry had killed Gabriella some time ago and buried her body on the beach.
