Gunfighter Colt Ferron (Bob Steele) kills his father's murderers and joins Wolf Whitson's (Ted Adams) gang of outlaws. All goes well, until the old gang members appear on the scene, now led by Snake Bralt (Lew Meehan). Colt goes to Governor Gray (A.C. Henderson) and tells him that if he will release Wolf from prison, the two of them can bring in the gang. Now, it is up to the governor to make a big decision.

The stage is set for a showdown with surveyor Jack Hare (Randolph Scott) in the center of the action, which is complicated by Snap's girlfriend Judy (Sally Blane) showing an interest in Jack. This film, based on a Zane Grey story, is Randolph Scott's first starring role.

Beatty is accompanied by his assistant, Sharkey (Warner Richmond), and his press agent, Larry (Syd Saylor), and the action begins when Beatty's dirigible crashes on an island. The island is filled with animals of all sorts, as well as another group of men looking for gold. Before story's end, Sharkey proves to be on the wrong side, and Ruth is found.
