A small-time crook, Harold Brundge (Leo McKern), gets orphan Casey (Jodie Foster) to pose as Lady St. Edmund's granddaughter in his quest for a lost treasure on "grandmother's" property. Once Casey spends time at her "grandmother's" estate, she is a witness to the good deeds of the butler, the chauffeur, the gardener, and the cavalry officer (all played by David Niven), sees the error of her ways, and helps to save the estate.
