  Ten-year-old Opal (AnnaSophia Robb) is lonely; her preacher father (Jeff Daniels) has just moved her to a dusty village in Florida where the citizens have been depressed since the candy factory closed. Opal needs friends and finds one at a grocery store when she encounters a homeless dog that she brings home and names Winn-Dixie.   I saw this movie for the first time over the weekend and it was excellent. There's not a star in it that wasn't just great!!!!!!!!!!!!
