The Langs–Oliver (Tim Robbins), Cheryl (Joan Cusack), and their three children–recently moved to the Washington, D.C. suburbs and now live across the street from Professor Michael Faraday (Jeff Bridges) and his young son. The families enjoy each other's company until Faraday, who specializes in domestic terrorism, grows suspicious of Oliver and checks into his background. This leads to questions of why the Lang family is now in the nation's capital.
