Vally becomes engaged to Francisco Caserto (Anthony Quinn), but, when her past is revealed, she meets with catastrophe and is killed. Lola returns to her family home where problems await. Only Franca appears to overcome her past when she finds a job and is able to support her young daughter.

Geremio (Sam Wanamaker) made enough to save for a new house for him and his wife, but lost his job during the Depression. He finally found another job, though he had to work in an unsafe environment. Tragedy follows.
