  Doctor Michael Joyce (James Mason) is a neurosurgeon whose lover Emma (Rosamund John) has been killed. He avenges her murder through a diabolical plot against the killer, Kate Howard (Pamela Mason). He stuffs the body in his car trunk and shortly after is called on to help a child who had been hurt in a car accident. If he doesn't come to the child's aid, the child may die. But, if he does help, the body may be found. Will he remain faithful to the Hippocratic Oath, or will he choose to flee and prevent the body from being discovered?
