Stanley Ford (Jack Lemmon) is the writer of a comic strip who lives in his bachelor pad with his manservant Charles (Terry-Thomas). Stanley stages his wife's murder through his cartoon characters' actions in his comic strip, and when his wife sees the cartoons, she panics and runs away. The police appear at Stanley's door asking questions about his wife, and now Stanley faces a murder charge.
