As a newcomer at his high school, Will Burton (Gaelen Connell) is an outcast, but he does make friends with misfit Sa5m (Vanessa Hudgens). Then, popular classmate, singer/songwriter Charlotte Banks (Alyson Michalka) asks Will to manage her rock band in preparation for the Bandslam competition in which she wants to beat her ex-boyfriend Ben Wheatly's (Scott Porter) band. Will just might make it possible for Charlotte's band to excel in the competition.

While Salman's (Scott Prendergast) brother is fighting in the Iraq War, he moves in with his brother's wife Leslie (Lisa Kudrow) to help care for his bratty young nephews Lincoln (Landon Henninger) and Cameron (Cameron Wofford). The boys cannot stand Salman and want him out of their lives. Salman gets a job handing out fliers and must wear a costume representing the company's mascot, Kabluey. He now enters a whole new world of off-beat street characters as Kabluey hands out his pamphlets. The costume is a huge blue clown outfit, and, after seeing Salman dressed in it, Lincoln and Cameron begin to show Salman some respect.
