  "Pop" O'Shea (Herbert Corthell) and his mechanic "Guppy" Wexel (Andy Divine) are working on an experimental oil-fueled auto engine for car racing when their car is in an accident that nearly destroys the engine. Larry Taylor (Richard Arlen) has plans of his own for the oil-fueled engine and secretly installs it in his race car. He enters a race with the engine, wins the race–and the girl (Peggy Moran) as well.

  Edward G. Robinson stars as small-time gangster Cesare Enrico "Rico" Bandello who, with his good friend Joe Massara (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.), joins Sam Vettori's (Stanley Fields) gang. When Cesare rises to become the leader of the gang, he takes on the moniker of "Little Caesar," and faces many problems–both personal and professional. This film marks the first "talkie" in the gangster genre and provides the vehicle for Robinson's certain stardom. Its success gave rise to many more gangster movies in the 1930s.

  A gambler, John "Lucky" Garnett (Fred Astaire), arrives late and misses his wedding to Margaret (Betty Furness). Now he must prove that he is worthy of marrying her in the future. He goes to New York where he has an on-again, off-again romance with dance instructor Penelope "Penny" Carroll (Ginger Rogers). By story's end, Penny escapes her own wedding to Ricky (Georges Metaxa), and "Lucky" and Penny are reunited. Jerome Kern wrote the score, which includes "The Way You Look Tonight" and "Never Gonna Dance." The first of these won the Oscar for Best Song. One of the pair's best.
