The film received several Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Actor (Pacino), Director, and Supporting Actor (Chris Sarandon) and won the award for Best Writing.

Adrian has his own opinion of Jack, which is that Jack's metal suitcase contains over one million dollars stolen from a Las Vegas casino. The surprise ending reveals the truth.

A paramilitary group of teenage boys–the Blue Legion–led by survivalist Jake (Mark Rolston) is camping in the Sierra Madre Mountains. Hostilities pop up between the two very different groups, and harassment is the name of Blue Legion's game. But, harassment accelerates into the murder of Hank, and now the Survival Quest crew must use what Hank taught them as they race through the mountains–one step ahead of the Blue Legion group that has plans to kill them all.

An Oscar was received for the song "You'll Be in My Heart."
