  Helen Bronson (Jennifer Connelly) is a young widow who has been caring for her eight-year-old stepson Jacob (Jaden Smith) since her husband died a year ago. To support herself, Helen works as a research scientist in astrobiology. When an alien orb appears in Manhattan, Helen steps in to offer the U.S. government advice on how to deal with its inhabitant, eco-friendly Klaatu (Keanu Reeves). Secretary of State Regina Jackson (Kathy Bates) is very suspicious of eco-friendly Klaatu, but Helen helps Klaatu escape, and she and Jacob take off with Klaatu and try to convince him to spare humans on the planet Earth from destruction.

The film received 3 Academy Awards (Best Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Visual Effects) and was nominated for one additional award.

  While watching a softball game on their Saudi Arabian compound, American men, women, and children are gunned down leaving more than 100 dead. The Saudis are investigating when FBI Special Agent Ronald Fleury (Jamie Foxx) gets permission for his team (Chris Cooper, Jennifer Garner, and Jason Bateman) to assist and advise in the efforts. But, they are given only five days to perform their investigation and help find the criminal responsible for the attack. When Fleury and his group find that they are not welcome and that they lack the trust of their Saudi counterparts, they get aid from Saudi Arabian police officer Colonel Fares Al Ghazi (Ashraf Barhom), and, together, they narrow the evidence down to the work of an anti-Western Wahhabi extremist who is part of a jihad determined to destroy Western business interests.    1 User Review
