  "The Decalogue" is an exceptionally good film. It represents a made-for-TV offering that features 10 personal stories, each reflecting one of the Ten Commandments. The stories are are all set in a dreary Warsaw housing project and are believable as they address real issues dealing with life, death, family, friends, and love.

  Irene Jacob plays the roles of two women–Veronika is Polish, and Veronique is French–who appear linked in their parallel, yet separate, lives. Both suffer from heart problems, and both have singing talents and aspire to have careers in music. Veronika ignores her health, but Veronique does get treatment for her heart problems. Veronika wins a singing competition, and later is scheduled to perform with a symphony. But on the night of her performance, she suffers a heart attack and dies. Now, the scene shifts to Veronique who gives up her singing ambitions and becomes a school teacher–as if she unconsciously learned from Veronika's mistakes.

  "Red" concludes Krzysztof Kieslowski's trilogy, following "White" and "Blue." Connections, or misconnections, we all experience as we go about our lives is the theme of this film about Valentine (Irene Jacob) who runs over a dog with her car. She rescues the dog and then returns it to its owner, Judge Joseph Kern (Jean-Louis Trintignant) who says that he no longer wants it. The judge is a bitter old man, but, after a series of connections, Valentine grows close to him, and they both gain happiness through their friendship. Director Kieslowski was nominated for an Oscar.

He is still haunted by memories of Dominique when he comes up with his plot in which he stages his disappearance, and a series of unique events ensue.
