This is a fictionalized account of the true facts behind the story of Brandon Teena (Hilary Swank), a woman living as a man and having the courage to be who he thought he was. At the age of 21, he was the object of an intensely brutal rape and murder, and Brandon's world came to an abrupt end. Brandon is also the subject of a 1997 documentary, "The Brandon Teena Story," which does a fine job of sticking with the truth in this tragedy. Hilary Swank won an Oscar for Best Actress and a nomination was received by Chloe Sevigny for Best Supporting Actress in her role as Lana who is Brandon's love interest.
