In the 1970s, the all-girls rock band, The Runaways, is formed with lead singers Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cheri Currie (Dakota Fanning) as the lead singers. Under the direction of manager Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), The Runaways rise to stardom and provide the inspiration for other girl bands. Based on Currie's memoirs, this is their story of personal and professional experiences as the teenage girls enter the world of rock icons.
