While the Black Plague is at its height, two ex-knights–Behmen (Nicholas Cage) and Felson (Ron Perlman)–arrive at the Marburg Palace where the Cardinal (Christopher Lee) gives them the duty of escorting a girl (Claire Foy), who is accused of being a witch, to an abbey where she will go on trial. It is believed that the girl has brought the Plague with her, and, as they set off on their dangerous journey, they soon encounter an ominous force that might threaten those on Earth.
