Raya (Rutina Wesley), the child of Jamaican parents (Melanie Nicholls-King and Conrad Coates), grew up in a tough Toronto neighborhood. Raya's solution: enter a Detroit-based dance competition and win the $50 thousand purse. She has lost out on a scholarship to Seaton Academy, and the money will more than take care of the tuition. The story gets the message across to the young ones about the difficulties associated with handicaps and Helen Keller's amazing triumph in dealing with her situation.
