Nick (Kevin Anderson) is called back to his hometown by his dying mother (Kim Novak). Thus begins the story of an old scandal, his own affair with his boyhood friend's wife, and other brooding moments. While director Figgis does his usual great job of presenting his story beautifully, the story itself is not all that good in this instance.
