U.S. prisoners of war in Vietnam call their prison "the Hanoi Hilton," and, despite enduring torture, American prisoner Col. Williamson (Michael Moriarty) assumes leadership of the prisoners and tries to enforce Cathcart's discipline. But, the prisoners do resist and form strong bonds that continue throughout their years in prison.
