Adapted from Henry Denker's play, this is a tense drama about the trial of Army Major Harry Cargill (Richard Basehart) who is accused of committing treason while he was a POW during the Korean War. Colonel William Edwards (Richard Widmark) investigates the charges, becomes convinced of Cargill's innocence, and represents him as his lawyer. As the facts are revealed during the court martial, it is learned that Cargill did reveal secrets to the North Koreans, but he did it to save the lives of his fellow POWs. Now, the moral question is whether or not Cargill is a traitor in spite of his good intentions.
