| | enlightening | dj 06/05/2007 | | I thought is was good to show how someone that is different can get along in the world with the right support. It shows how a person can love another based on who they really are. It's like reading a book then watching a movie. Somehow the book was better because you are forced to imagine. And your imagination is better than a hollywood director. Anyway, I thought it was touching and moving and explained a lot about the human condition. We are all prejudice in one way or another, based on very little. |

| | an endearing film for the whole family | findingavoice 01/14/2007 | This is one of those films that lifts one's spirits - - a joy with every viewing. As it explores the stresses within a family it creates a new connection among the principals as a result of the father's effort to save an injured horse and the daughter's love for and belief in both her father and the animal.
Everyone contributes to this cinematic delight, but Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russell provide the basic elements that make this unlikely success story a heartwarming experience. The horse is pretty special too. |

| | Underated 70's comedy deserving re-appraisal | Tap Reffahs 10/22/2007 | Sharp vivid and under rated 70's comedy with Elaine May script, and exceptional performance by Dyan Cannon in a sassy turn that fits the era, her unique and delightful personality deserving of more credit for this - and better roles like it to have vaulted her into the first rank of actresses in the 70's.
Preminger assembled a cast of pros that had performed with his direction before, such as Burgess Meredith, and newcomer Jennifer O'Neill, so refreshing in "Summer of '42". Her lustrous beauty - in addition to Dyan Cannon's effervescent smile and the cast of talented stage and screen talents - should have jelled into a strong comedy of it's era - having fallen through the cracks at the time - it is damn good and deserving of the audience that has become loyal to it through the years, awaiting a DVD release pronto - and the long delayed and deserved praise NOW. |
