In the time of suffragists, nine-year-old Samantha's (AnnaSophia Robb) life has just taken a huge turn. Her parents have died, and she has been sent to live with her grandmother (Mia Farrow). Grandmary Edwards is very concerned with manners and Samantha behaving like a lady. Samantha befriends her neighbor's servant girl Nellie (Kelsey Lewis), learns about the troubles Nellie faces, and tries her hardest to keep Nellie with her in good times and in bad. (Review by LW)
