  Kira (Olivia Newton-John) is an angel who returns to Earth to inspire a young artist, Sonny Malone (Michael Beck). Years before, Kira had inspired wealthy, but older, Danny McGuire (Gene Kelly), and she conspires for Sonny and Danny to meet. They become friends and decide to turn an abandoned building into a nightclub featuring 1940s and 1980s music, neon lights, and roller skating–and Xanadu is created. Now it is time for Kira to move on, but she and Sonny have fallen in love. Will they be able to convince the gods to allow them to stay together?
