They receive help from Swiss archaeologist Albrecht (Jason Robards Sr.) who provides them with a roof over their heads and advice. When they reach the grave, they discover that the remains are no longer there. Pherides decides to track down the grave robbers and, in the process, hears stories from superstitious Kyra (Helen Thimig) about a vampire Thea (Ellen Drew). Meanwhile, the island's inhabitants are dying. Are they victims of a plague caused by corpses on a nearby battlefield, or are the deaths being caused by Kyra? The closing scene of Mrs. St. Auburn (Katherine Emery) being buried alive brings a chilling climax to this horror story.
