Now the race against time begins as the scientists attempt to find a cure before more people die.

  Struggling, Atlantic City casino worker Sally (Susan Sarandon) becomes a partner with aging gangster Lou (Burt Lancaster) in a plot to make some easy money through the selling of drugs. Big problems arise when her estranged husband (Robert Joy) is killed, and the Mafia targets Sally. Lou steps in and saves Sally and, at the same time, proves to himself that he still has gangster skills. The film was nominated for several Oscars including Best Picture, Actor (Lancaster), Actress (Sarandon), and Director.

First, Agnes' alcoholic sister Claire (Kate Reid) stops to visit, and then their daughter Julia (Lee Remick) appears on the scene announcing that she is going through her fourth divorce. As if that was not enough, their best friends Harry and Edna (Joseph Cotten and Betsy Blair) come to visit, and it appears that they plan to stay forever. What has happened to their life of quiet domesticity?

Surprise endingSmokey 04/06/2009 
  I didn't really want to go see this movie in 1976. But the surprise ending has stuck with me all these years and after all these years it is still one of my favorites. Cliff Robertson was great in it too!
