Devoting a total of 40 out of 184 minutes to the attack on Pearl Harbor and its aftermath hardly does justice to the Japanese bombing that killed 3,000 Americans and rallied U.S. citizens into an all-out effort to win World War II. For a much better focus on Pearl Harbor, watch Richard Fleischer's "Tora! Tora! Tora!" An Academy Award was received for Best Sound Editing, and the film was nominated for three other awards.

Although divorce is in the near future for Amy (Kate Beckinsale) and David (Luke Wilson), they do attend Amy's parents' anniversary celebration. Problems develop on the trip home when David gets lost, they argue, their BMW breaks down, and they rent a shabby room from night manager Mason (Frank Whaley) at the Pinewood Motel. To relieve the tension, David plays an unmarked videocassette that he finds in the motel room. There is a problem with the cassette: the video appears to have been filmed in David and Amy's motel room and involves frightened guests being tortured and murdered. David and Amy realize that they, too, are being filmed by hidden cameras and that, if they cannot find a means of escape, they are doomed to be the next victims.
