By story's end, Nevada eventually gets his man–and also gets the lady (June Martel).

Vance investigates the murder of a NY millionaire as greedy relatives seek a portion of the inheritance. After a few suspects are murdered, Vance comes up with the killer. Richards certainly was not the best Philo Vance.
