A famous author, Paul Sheldon (James Caan), has written a series of books with a heroine named Misery Chastain. When he has a car wreck, he is rescued by a mountain resident, Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), who tends to his injuries. Unfortunately, she is more than a little upset that Paul has ended Misery's life, and she decides to force him to bring Misery back to life in a new book. This movie is from the Stephen King novel by the same name. Kathy Bates won an Oscar for her performance.
