  Trying to recover from a broken romance, emotionally disturbed Leonard (Joaquin Phoenix) moves back to the Brooklyn home of his parents Reuben and Ruth Kraditor (Moni Moshonov and Isabella Rossellini). Leonard meets two women–Sandra (Vinessa Shaw), the daughter of Michael Cohen (Bob Ari) who wants to buy the Kraditor family business, and partying neighbor Michelle (Gwyneth Paltrow). Both Sandra's and Leonard's parents would love to see the marriage of Leonard and Sandra take place, but Leonard is drawn to Michelle. Now, Leonard is faced with the decision between a loving relationship with Sandra or satisfying his desire for Michelle.
