John Ried (Klinton Spilsbury) is the sole survivor of an ambush by Butch Cavendish (Christopher Lloyd) and his gang. John assumes the name of the Lone Ranger–after his Ranger brother who was killed in the ambush–and is determined to bring the Cavendish gang to justice. He dons his mask and riding his horse Silver sets out with Tonto to save President Ulysses S. Grant (Jason Robards) who the Cavendish gang has abducted.
