  This biography of Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain, stars Fredric March as the teller of tales about mid-19th-century America whose work reflects concerns with how human beings relate to one another. During his early years, he works as a navigator on the Mississippi River, and then moves out West and heads for the California Gold Rush. He writes "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," and his successful career as a writer begins. The film also chronicles his professional and personal life, including his marriage to Olivia Langdon (Alexis Smith) and continues on to his death at age 75.
