Washed-up country music star Bo Price (Toby Keith) returns home for the funeral of his young brother who died during a military training exercise. Angela (Kelly Preston), along with 16-year-old daughter Dixie Leigh (Lindsey Haun), is returning to the home of her parents–Jake and Dixie Rose (Burt Reynolds and Tess Harper) for the funeral of her brother who was killed in the same accident. Bo had abandoned pregnant Angela years before when she was a teenager. During the next few days, broken hearts are mended among the three generations of unhappy souls.

Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) is a loser who ends up in trouble with the law and is sent to serve as a janitor at the Maryland School of the Arts. Meanwhile, ballet dancer Nora Clark (Jenna Dewan) needs to find a dance partner with whom to rehearse because her partner sprained his ankle. Nora catches Tyler performing hip-hop moves and asks him to fill in for her partner. Tyler influences her dancing and brings it to a higher level.
