Bucky dumps girlfriend Kay Lake (Scarlett Johansson) when he comes under the spell of the beautiful bisexual, Madeleine (Hilary Swank), who, it turns out, once slept with Elizabeth. Then there are the drugs and police corruption that enter the picture in this difficult case.

Devoting a total of 40 out of 184 minutes to the attack on Pearl Harbor and its aftermath hardly does justice to the Japanese bombing that killed 3,000 Americans and rallied U.S. citizens into an all-out effort to win World War II. For a much better focus on Pearl Harbor, watch Richard Fleischer's "Tora! Tora! Tora!" An Academy Award was received for Best Sound Editing, and the film was nominated for three other awards.

Then one day Erik finds a homeless man (Samuel L. Jackson) stumbling in the alley after a beating. He tells Erik that he is the former boxing champion "Battling" Bob Satterfield. Now Erik has a purpose in life to tell the story of this fallen sports hero, and while dedicating himself to writing an honest story, Erik re-examines his professional and personal lives and improves them both.
