But Julia's real motivation was to force Natalie to face her estranged brother, Roy (Kiefer Sutherland), now a successful advertising guru. This brings back bad memories of Natalie's youth with an abusive father that she must now face, especially when Roy, an openly gay man, tells her he is in the advanced stages of AIDS.

The audience goes back and forth between the past deceit and Jean's growing uneasiness over her own similar situation: she is convinced that her husband is having an affair with his brother's girlfriend.
