Despite his circumstances, Oliver does find friends and a "family" within the gang. Popular songs include "As Long as He Needs Me" and "Consider Yourself." A total of six Oscars were received, and there were six other nominations, including Best Actor (Ron Moody) and Supporting Actor (Jack Wild).

The diagnosis of "emotional problems" resulted in making the condition worse with her prescribed medications (including liquor). The troubled marriage, which included her being placed in a mental institution, had a great influence on T.S. Eliot's work and life. Miranda Richardson was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar and Rosemary Harris was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
