Along the way, they meet con-men "King" and "Duke" (Tony Randall and Mickey Shaughnessy) who find work on a riverboat and join the circus–neither the riverboat nor the circus were in Twain's book. Reluctantly, Huckleberry and Jim are drawn into the schemes of "King" and "Duke."

They continue to rescue each other in this funny film, but the treatment of the Native Americans in that era is not acceptable today.
