A drifter gunman "Joe" (Clint Eastwood) comes into a Mexican border town of San Miguel, which is in the midst of turmoil set off by two families who are fighting. "Joe" makes friends with bar owner Silvanito (Jose Calvo) and ends up earning cash for killing off the feuding family members. As he plays one family against the other, "Joe" stays awhile and leaves a more peaceful town. The film spawned two sequels: "For a Few Dollars More" and "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."

In this sequel to "A Fistful of Dollars," Monco (Clint Eastwood) joins forces with bounty hunter Col. Douglas Mortimer (Lee Van Cleef) in an attempt to capture psychotic bandit Indio (Gian Maria Volonte). While not completely trusting each other, they do form a partnership, and Monco watches as Mortimer guns down Indio. But, while Monco was planning on the reward money, Mortimer, it turns out, was seeking revenge.
